Doi Sorse Katla is a traditional Bengali recipe where curry cut Katla fish is cooked with a gravy prepared from smashed mustard seeds and beaten yogurt.
INGREDIENTS REQUIRED
1. katla fish - (4 piece)2. Mustard Seed (Sorse) -3 TbSP
3. Yogurt (Doi)- 3 TbSP
4. Nigella Seed (Kalojeera) - 1/2 TSP
5. Turmeric Powder - 1.5 TSP
6. Green Chili - 3 Pcs
7. Ginger- 1 Inch
8. Cumin Powder (Jeera guro)- 1 TbSP
9. Salt - 1.5 TbSP
10. Mustard Oil- 4 TbSP (For best teste try to use mustard oil only)
11. Sugar- 1/2 TbSP
STEPS OF PREPARATION
1. In a bowl marinate 4 Pcs Katla Fish with 1/2 TSP turmeric powder and 1/2 TSP salt for 10 mins.2. In a mixer jar add 3 TbSP mustard seeds, 3 Pcs Green Chili, 1/2 TSP salt, 1 inch ginger and water as required to grind a smooth paste.
3. Take the paste in a mixing bowl, add 3 TbSP yogurt , 1 TSP turmeric powder, 1 TbSP cumin powder, 1 TSP salt and mix well to a uniform paste.
4. Add 4 TbSP oil in a kadai and heat untill smoke comes out of the oil, add marinated fish pieces and fry untill golden brown and keep aside.
5. Add 1/2 TSP Nigella Seeds on the same oil, add prepared mix and fry for two mins.
6. add one cup water (according to gravy and thickness requirement) and 1/2 Tbsp Sugar, cover it and boil for 3 mins.
7. Add the fried Fish in the gravy and cover it again and boil for another 5 mins.
8. Add Some Mustard Oil to enhance the flavour.
Thats all !! Your Doi Sorse Katla is ready to serve. Serve it with hot steamed rice.
