Hilsa or Ilish is a species of fish in the herring family which is very popular in India and Bangladesh. Hilsa is known to be the " queen of fish", its a tradition of Bengali people. Sorse ilish is a classical bengali dish cooked in mustard sauce. It is a very simple and easy to cook recipe. Let's jump into the steps.
INGREDIENTS
1. Hilsa Fish - 4 pieces
2. Mustard Seed - 3 TbSP
3. Garlic - 3 pieces
4. Green Chili - 3 pieces
5. Nigella Seeds - 1/2 TSP
7. Turmeric Powder - 1/2 TSP
8. Red Chili Powder - 1/2 TSP
9. Mustard Oil - 3 TbSP
LET'S PREPARE
1. Marinate the hilsa fish pieces with 1/2TSP salt and 1/2 TSP turmeric powder.
2. In a mixing jar take 3 TbSP mustard seed, 3 pieces green chili, 3 pieces garlic, 1 TSP salt, grind to a smooth paste.
3. In a bowl take 1/2 TSP turmeric powder and 1/2 TSP red chili powder. Make a spice paste with adding some water.
4. Take a pan and heat 3 TbSP mustard oil.
5. Add 1/2 TSP nigella seed to the oil. Then add the spice mix into oil, fry for 30 seconds.
6. Now add the mustard paste and fry till oil separates from it.
7. Add 2 cups of water, lat it come to boil.
8. Add marinated hilsa fish prices,following 1 TSP salt.
9. Cover and boil for 5 minutes.
10. After 5 minutes add 3 green chilis, and again cover and cook for another 5 minutes.
11. Finally add 1TSP mustard oil in it and SORSE ILISH is totally ready to serve.
