"Niramish Alu'r Dom" is a traditional bengali recipe where new grown baby potatoes are cooked in a thick gravy. In this recipe we are not using onion and garlic. This popular recipe of bengal,mostly served with luchi,parota or polao. Do try this at home and let us know how it turned out for you.
INGREDIENTS REQUIRED
- Baby potatoes(Notun Alu)- 500gm
- Tomato-2pcs(small)
- Green Chili-3pcs
- Cashew Paste- 8-10pcs
- Mustard Oil-3TbSP
- Bay leaf-1pcs
- Dry red chili-1pcs
- Cinnamon-1pcs
- Clove-2pcs
- Cardamom-2pcs
- Cumin seed-1/2TSP
- Hing(asafoetida)-1/2TSP
- Ginger-1/2inch(crushed)
- Turmeric powder-1/2TSP
- Red chili powder-1/2TSP
- Cumin powder- 1TSP
- Coriander powder- 1TSP
- Green peas- 1/2cup
- Salt- 1TSP
- Garam masala- 1TSP
- Ghee- 1/2TSP
- Water- 1cup
STEPS OF PREPARATION
In a large bowl take 500gm baby potatoes, ash them throughly by changing water.
In a pressure cooker take the washed potatoes, add required water and 1TbSP salt. Close the lid and cook for 2 whistle.
Let the pressure release and then open the lid. Peal off the potato skin carefully.
In a kadai add 3TbSP mustard oil. Next add the whole spices(Bay leaf-1pcs, Dry red chili-1pcs, Cinnamon-1pcs, Clove-2pcs, Cardamom-2pcs, Cumin seed-1/2TSP, Hing(asafoetida)-1/2TSP, Ginger-1/2inch(crushed) ). Saute for 30secs.
Add the spices gradually (Turmeric powder-1/2TSP, Red chili powder-1/2TSP, Cumin powder- 1TSP, Coriander powder- 1TSP ). Fry on low flame for 1 minute.
Add the tomato green chili pasre and cashew paste. Fry for 5 minutes on low flame.
Add the boiled potatoes and green peas, mix with the spices so all the potatoes are coated with the masala and stir for few minutes.
Add 1cup of water, 1TSP salt, mix, cover and cook for 8 minutes on low flame.
Lastly add 1/2 TSP garam masala and 1/2 TSP ghee, mix well, and Niramish Alu'r DOm is ready to serve.
Enjoy with luchi, roti, paratha or polao.
Add the tomato green chili pasre and cashew paste. Fry for 5 minutes on low flame.
Add the boiled potatoes and green peas, mix with the spices so all the potatoes are coated with the masala and stir for few minutes.
Add 1cup of water, 1TSP salt, mix, cover and cook for 8 minutes on low flame.
Lastly add 1/2 TSP garam masala and 1/2 TSP ghee, mix well, and Niramish Alu'r DOm is ready to serve.
